Rejection by siblings in literature Is the stupid goose to sit in the parlor with us? , said Cinderella’s sisters annoyed by her presence when they just started living together. Not that she did anything to upset her step-sisters. She spent days on her hands and knees cleaning, cooking and washing after them. But that didn’t make her sisters treat her any better than a â€Å"stupid goose†. They laughed at her and made her do the dirty work because â€Å"He who wants to eat bread must earn it.† While being rejected by her step-sisters upsets Cinderella, she chooses not to be depressed but to enjoy simple pleasures in life, to endure any obstacles and to have a positive perspective on life. Unfortunately, real life is not a fairytale and a happy ending is not guarantee. Rejection by siblings can be endured but can also destroy one’s self-esteem. Cinderella is not alone in being rejected by her siblings. Both Maggie and Sonny, the heroines of the stories â€Å"Everyday Ese† by A lice Walker and â€Å"Sonny’s Blues† by James Baldwin have experienced rejection from their siblings. The outcomes, however, aren’t as positive as Cinderella’s. In both stories rejection by siblings resulted in a low self-esteem that negatively shaped their lives. The heroine of the story â€Å"Cinderella† by Grim Brothers, knows the feeling of rejection very well. She is not welcomed in her â€Å"new family† from the beginning. Just look at the proud princess! How decked out she is!†

Celebrating Celebration One of the many Christian traditions that has become relatively quiet is the celebration of the Epiphany, or Twelfth Night, as it is sometimes called. This was a night of great celebration, as it was a remembrance of the Magi’s arrival at the birthplace of Christ, and it began the winter carnival season. In the time of Shakespeare, a play was written with this night in mind, and was appropriately titled, Twelfth Night. Now the play doesn’t have anything directly to do with the celebration for which it is named, and the only obvious connection is that it is thought that the first performance of this play was done on Twelfth Night, 1602. However, after a time, it appeared that the new king would be even more severe in the application of these laws than his predecessor. This enforcement of anti-catholic laws brings to the forefront the idea of ceremony, since that was one of the most drastic differences between the two religious cultures. Because the Catholic Church concentrated so much of its worship and power on ceremony, such as mass, it was abhorred by those Protestants and puritans who saw ceremony as frivolous and unnecessary. Marys account of the creatures mental and moral development follow the theories of David Hartley and John Locke. Mary Shelley read Rousseaus Emile in 1816. Rousseau stated that: God makes all things good; man meddles with them and they become evil. Rousseau specifically attributed moral failings to the lack of a mothers love. Without mothering and a loving education a man left to himself from birth would be more of a monster that the rest. Thus, Mary Shelley is suggesting that a rejected and unmothered child can become a killer, especially a killer of its own family.
